Happy New Year, everyone! Now that it’s a new year, you might be thinking about how to refresh the spaces in your home. Here are some ideas for how to refresh your space for less. You don’t have to spend a fortune to give a room a new look!
Living Room/Family Room
The easiest way to change the look of a living room or family room is to change the throw pillows.
This pillow was my inspiration for the color scheme in our family room:
Then I found a few more pillows that coordinated with this one. Total cost for 7 pillows: about $120.00. I found these at Target and HomeGoods.
Another way to refresh a living room or family room is to change the art. Here, I framed architectural plans the previous owner of our house gave me.
Total cost for this project was just the cost of the two frames, from Ikea.
Bathroom
You don’t have to rip out fixtures to refresh your bathroom space! For a budget-friendly refresh, you could change out the knobs on the vanity:
I found those colorful knobs at an import store for about $2 apiece (or less). Look at the difference!
You could also tile a backsplash to refresh your bathroom.
You don’t have to break the bank tiling a bathroom backsplash. In my kids’ bathroom, I just tiled the area under the medicine cabinet, with some tiles that I had gotten at a garage sale for $1 for the whole box! Even if you don’t find that kind of bargain, you can just buy a few tiles and tile a border between the sink and medicine cabinet or mirror.
Bedroom
One of the easiest ways to update a bedroom for less is to change the bed linens. Try a new duvet or pillows on the bed.
Of course, paint is an easy and inexpensive way to update any space for less. We painted our bedroom a cool gray for a relaxing feel.
Adding a stenciled pattern to one wall created a focal point behind the bed. Total cost: one gallon of paint ($50); one stencil ($36).
Kitchen
To refresh your kitchen for less, how about painting a backsplash? If your backsplash is the same color as the wall color, add different paint for a new look:
I used chalkboard paint for a contrasting and unique backsplash in our neutral kitchen.
My favorite way to refresh a space for less is to add something quirky or vintage into the room. For example, I used a vintage Coke crate as a spice rack in my kitchen.
Cost: Crate was $25 and labels were $3. You can find crates like this at salvage stores or antique stores.
