Paint is one of the least expensive and easiest ways to add color or impact to a room. You can obviously paint an entire room a dramatic color:
…but you don’t have to paint the whole room to use paint to make a dramatic change. Here are some other ways to use paint to make walls pop.
My daughter wanted me to paint her entire room bright green. As a compromise, I painted the walls bright white and added a bold green stripe. The stripe gives her the color she wanted, and it really stands out against the white walls.
Painting a stripe like this is easy. You just have to use a level to tape off the stripe around the room. I recommend a laser level, although mine went missing for this project (the tool gremlins were at it again!), so I used a regular level and it worked fine.
Another way to use paint to create impact is to paint an accent wall. Our entry hall was blah, boring beige. Here’s the “before” picture:
Yawn, right?
Here’s the “after,” with a splash of Wolf Grey (Benjamin Moore) paint in the area under the stairs:
Now the linen-covered bench stands out against the colorful wall, and the paint gives that little wall space some character.
If you are even more adventuresome, you can try a stencil on a wall to add color. You can find wall stencils in craft stores and online, and they can make a big impact on a wall.
Even if you don’t use a stencil, you can simply freehand a design on a wall, using paint or even a sharpie!
So, go grab some paint and make a statement in a room in your home today!
