Fall weather….ahhhhh……curling up in snugly blankets, sipping hot cider and building roaring fires. Don’t ‘cha just love it?! Cooler fall temps remind me that it’s time to cozy up my home decor too.
If you’re like me, personalizing your fall home will include adding rich colors and loads of texture; pulling out the nubby, warm throws and fur-covered down pillows. These items don’t cost much and they can transform your airy, summer inspired rooms into cozy fall spaces. Fall decorating is really pretty easy….take your fall décor to the next level with these simple suggestions:
First impressions are everything, so start your fall décor at the front door. A new welcome mat in bold colors, a topiary pumpkin and a beautiful wreath are sure to welcome your guests with style!
Most craft stores stock a plethora of fall décor items…..faux fall leaves, pumpkins, acorns…..all of these items can easily be worked into arrangements in the home. I love to fill tall hurricanes or lanterns with glittery pumpkins and cut-glass vases with leaves and mini acorns.
I use long garlands of leaves or loose leaves for mantle displays, to use on the dining room tablescape and to frame mirrors around the house.
Stock up on tinted or clear glass hurricanes, votives or candlesticks. Three large hurricane vases placed down the center of your dining table make for a simple centerpiece. Or try a trio of colorful glass candlesticks on your kitchen island.
Trays are a fabulous fall décor tool. I constantly use trays on my fabric ottoman to hold books, drink glasses, etc. For fall, I add ceramic pumpkins and leaves to a sturdy dark rattan tray and use it on the ottoman or table. Trays filled with yummy fall munchies look amazing on the kitchen counter too.
If you want to make bigger décor changes for fall, consider walls, windows and floors. Seasonally switching out art pieces not only changes the look of your home but also gives you something new to gaze upon! Adding texture to windows with bamboo shades or burlap draperies instantly brings fall inside. And warm, thick rugs will definitely add the cozy factor to your home. You don’t have to go for dark colors – just look for a rug that adds great texture and comfort to your room.
There is something so spectacular about spice-scented candles and that first mug of hot Russian tea on a cool fall night…..it makes me happy just thinking about it!
I hope these tips inspire you to cozy up your fall home with a little seasonal decor. I’d love to hear how YOU spice up your home for fall too!
