My Favorite Modern Outdoor Room

Contributing Blogger

Recently, I was fortunate to join a small and exclusive group of design bloggers, interior designers, and interior decorators, representing 28 states and 4 countries, for Blogfest 2012, a design event hosted by Kravet Fabrics. As part of the event, we were able to see two fabulous showhouses, which have both recently opened in New York City – the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club Show House and the Elle Décor Modern Life Concept Show house.

At the Elle Décor show house, I immediately fell in love with this outdoor space, designed by Michael Tavano.  Take a look and let me know if you agree!

Here’s why

1 – I’m loving the modern fabrics on the daybed. Finally, we are no longer limited to the loudest brightest fabric around for outdoor use. Lee Joffa/Kravet Fabrics are giving clients and designers the choice to use sophisticated and modern patterned and textured fabric, and keep that modern vibe going outside. Swanky – right?

2. Love the use of metallic in the space – featured in the space dividers and dining table and chairs. Metallics, especially bronzes, are still very much popular, and I love how Tavano used it on this space to keep it fresh and hip.

3. Who says you can’t use mirrors outside? Of course you can – because they help make a small space feel bigger!  And they can help make the sun shine just a little brighter in your small corner of the world.  And in the evening, properly placed candles will shine even brighter in front of the mirror!

Of course, I love that creative color combination and that this space will always be sunny, even if it is cold and rainy – which is perfect for an outdoor room. What a fantastic inspiration for my own space!

Here is a bonus…a sleek modern outdoor rug from Home Depot to polish off the space!
