I have never been a last-minute holiday gift shopper… until the flu laid me out this month! And now I find myself scrambling for that perfect gift for a few people left on my list and not much time or energy to do the legwork. If you’re in the same boat (for whatever reason), then today’s your lucky day… I’m sharing a few ideas I’ve come up with to finish my shopping without short-changing anyone on my list.
Gift a favorite service. This could be anything from a mani-pedi at their favorite salon to a car detail service for that someone that keeps a meticulous vehicle. Facials, house cleaning, even an Uber gift card are thoughtful ideas for those on your list!
Gift a subscription they’ll love. And I’m not talking about a magazine subscription. These are fresh takes on that concept. A couple of the fellows on my list are getting a subscription to the Dollar Shave Club. Think about the person you’re buying for… would Netflix or Audible be up their alley? How about a coffee of the month or wine of the month? I’m a fan of Birchbox for women, a service that delivers beauty samples each month. Truly the gift that keeps giving!
Gift a unique experience. Think about something your gift recipient would love to do, but would never do for themselves. Is it a sky dive? Concert or play tickets? A behind-the-scenes tour at the museum? Your local attractions just might surprise you! My husband received the Mario Andretti Racing Experience last year… I got a lot of mileage out of that one!
But don’t think you have to spend big bucks on this one… it could be a brunch date with you, an author talk at your local bookstore, or a wine-tasting at a wine bar. Again, think of something they might not do on their own but would thoroughly enjoy.
Hit their favorite store. You might get lucky and spot something they would love right away. But if not, don’t spin your wheels in frustration… choose something small — like a bookmark at a bookstore, a scarf at a clothing store, a water bottle at a sporting goods store, coffee mug at the coffee shop — and then supplement it with a gift card to that store. This is my favorite “go-to”… it shows you’ve given thought to where they love to shop but it sure beats that same ole-same ole gift card routine.
Gear the gift to their beloved hobby. If you have no idea what they might need, focus on what they might like. The avid reader might enjoy a booklight and the newest bestseller (or a favorite classic). Maybe new headphones for the music lover, warm hat and running gloves for the marathon runner on your list, or some sweet kitchen utensils and pot holders for the baker.
Okay, so I’ve got my list now, how about you? Remember, “last minute” doesn’t necessarily mean budget-busting. Just spend a few minutes thinking about your gift recipients and the right idea will come to you. Now, off you go — time is of the essence!
Wishing you and yours a blessed holiday season and much joy in the New Year!
