Nothing says summertime like a getaway to the lake. Lake times are all about relaxing, enjoying the view and outdoor activities, and time with the people you care about. We are blessed to have family members that share their lake house with us, and we’ve created many memories by the water. So to me, lake house design should enable care-free living and encourage togetherness. Easy to do when you keep a few things in mind…
Places to Gather. The most important feature should be ample space to gather… preferably with a view! Inviting seating groups, comfortable furniture, indoors or out, you will want to be with your guests, so make it easy.

Ample sleeping spaces. Lake houses are the perfect place to make your sleeping spaces work hard… bunk beds, multiple beds in one room, flexible sleeping space. We always like for everyone to have a bed but don’t rule out pull out sofas or swings on the porch as good sleeping options. Keep the bedding simple but layered — easy to wash and easy to store.

It’s all in the details. Pay attention to the details in your decor and design… they are what enhance enjoyment for you and your guests and make your lake home uniquely your own. Whether your style is rustic, nautical, farmhouse, or cottage (or some combination thereof!) put thought into the little things.
