Decorate with Plaid (It’s Not Just for Winter!)

Heidi Milton

Happy National Tartan Day!! When I think of plaid, I always think of fall and holiday — cozy wool throws and pillows in dark paneled rooms by the fire.  But these days there are light and refreshing plaids in home decor that defy that stereotype.  Who knew?

I love all the fresh plaids I see in upholstery. There’s nothing stuffy about these fabrics and pieces!

Wallpaper is making a comeback.  The muted plaid in this wallcovering is the perfect way to introduce pattern without it overwhelming your space.

Accessories are always easy changes.  If you’re not bold enough to try plaid upholstery or wallpaper, how about a throw or accent pillow, or a plaid covered basket?

Contemporary wall decor might fit the bill.  I love these modern takes on the traditional deer or lodge motif using plaid.

Set the table with plaid.  Choosing a light color palette helps these plaid table linens transition from season to season.  Add spring flowers to complement and you’ve got a fresh seasonal look.

Don’t forget the rug! As long as your color palette is fresh your room will feel warm weather ready with plaid underfoot.  This rug from Mohawk’s American Rug Craftsman collection fits the bill!
