Old Man Winter has overstayed his welcome this year. With the weather so cold (even in Georgia!), I just want to curl up under a blanket and hibernate. That feeling got me thinking about how to create a cozy bedroom. Include these elements in your bedroom to create a comfortable, warm space and send Old Man Winter packing.
Add Warm Linens and Layers
These blankets and pillows remind me of a warm sweater. Adding layers of linens to the bed creates a cozy feeling; they make you want to nestle in with a good book.
Start with some fluffy pillows covered in a soft fabric. Then add a cotton blanket and warm down or down-alternative comforter. Throw a blanket or quilt at the end of the bed, just in case you need more warmth, and you’ve got a cozy bed.
Add Natural Textures
The wood on this ceiling effectively lowers the vaulted ceiling, and makes the room warmer and more cozy.
If adding wood to a ceiling seems a bit much, add some to a wall instead. The warmth of the wood will create a cozy, cabin-like feeling.
Add Warmth Under Foot
Add a soft, plush rug to warm up a bedroom space.
After being cocooned in a warm bed, you don’t want to get up on a cold floor. Adding a rug gives you a soft, warm landing spot.
Add Paint
Paint is an inexpensive and easy way to add warmth to a room. Create a cozy space by adding a darker color as an accent wall, like in this bedroom:
The dark paint color, coupled with the lighter bed linens and lamp-light, creates a warm, lovely space.
Add Your Favorite Things
On a smaller scale, making a bedroom cozy means adding accessories that make you feel comfortable in the space.
Lamps, books, and flowers create a space that makes you want to linger and relax.
Curtains on windows – here, in bright, happy colors – soften the light coming in.
To me, one of the best ways to create a cozy bedroom is to add a furry friend (or two):
