Growing up, Christmas morning was a highly anticipated annual affair, worthy of carefully coordinated pajamas and some serious calendar countdowns, suspiciously in full swing sometime after the daily grind of the school year began.
One year in particular I vividly remember setting aside two full size candy bars from my Halloween trick-or-treating stockpile, rare precious jewels to a chocolate crazed second grader. Naturally, I ate all my chocolate coated loot within the first two weeks of November. But the full size chocolate bars sat peculiarly untouched on my bedroom bookshelf. I remember my mother looking inquisitively at the uneaten chocolate treasures in late November, to which I matter-of-factly told her, “those” (like everything else magical and wonderful to a seven-year-old) were to be saved for Christmas morning.
Now a couple decades later, while I still appreciate the novelty of receiving an unexpected Reese’s candy bar, I don’t feel the same need to stow it away until December 25th rolls around. My grown up tastes call for something a little more savory these days when it comes to the splendor of a Christmas morning breakfast. But instead of sweating all morning in the kitchen, try one (or all five!) of our quick fix recipes that will bring all the delicious magic of the holidays to your table, without sacrificing time with the company around it! Bon appetit!
Mmm… who doesn’t swoon over the sweet and buttery scent of ooey gooey cinnamon sugar coated monkey bread? What we love even more about this recipe from The Frugal Girls blog is it’s a simple, fuss free slow cooker version of the classic, that lets you whip it up while you’re “visiting with Santa Clause” the night before and forget it until smells of fresh baked monkey bread and Christmas anticipation wake up the kids! Why, looks like Santa left Mom a surprise this year too!
And for those who might want something a little more savory, this breakfast casserole recipe from blogger couple, Kevin and Amanda, might be just the ticket! With only four ingredients to buy at the grocery store and a recipe so simple it can be prepared for the oven in 5 minutes flat (just brown and drain your sausage the night before), this one is a hit for a quick and hearty Christmas morning meal!
For something a little extra special, we love this overnight blueberry French toast recipe, found on the High Heels & Grills blog! Mix up the bulk of the recipe the night before and refrigerate until Christmas morning. Then the next morning, pour yourself a mimosa and pop the divine blueberry concoction in the oven for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, sip your mimosa and bring a mixture of cornstarch, sugar and water to a boil. Add some blueberries in the boiling topping and let the sugary syrup simmer for another ten minutes. By that time, your fresh toast is ready to come out of the oven and have the delicious blend poured over top and your guests will swear you must have slaved all morning. Don’t forget to pour your second mimosa.
So your family craves sweet and salty? Take a walk on the wild side with this unexpected multitasker from Gimme Some Oven. Best part about it? This bacon cinnamon roll recipe will taste deluxe, but it only requires a can of premade cinnamon rolls and however many bacon strips you need relative to the cinnamon rolls… Enjoy!
Last but definitely not least, we love the simplicity and mouthwatering universal appeal of this classic sausage and cheese crescent squares recipe from Pillsbury. Another recipe that can be simplified by browning your sausage and cream cheese mixture the night before, just layer a can of crescent roll dough into an ungreased pan the next morning, nuke your sausage and cream cheese mixture and pour it over the dough, follow with shredded cheese and another can of crescent roll dough to top it off and bake for 21- 26 minutes at 375 degrees. Voila! Breakfast is served.
