Bring Spring Indoors with Evergreen Houseplants

Contributing Blogger

Anyone else feeling that ache for spring? To remember what grass feels like beneath bare feet? To soak up the sunshine on your face?

If it’s still chilly and wintry where you are, try bringing in a few evergreen houseplants to usher in the feeling of spring! Here are a few of my favorite plants for interior decorating.

Fiddle Leaf Ficus
The fiddle leaf ficus is perhaps the most pervasive plant in interior design, and for good reason!

These trees are sculptural, textural, and can be pruned into tall trees with height interest, or shorter, denser shrubs. Their giant leaves are a deep, rich green, and while they’re not the easiest plants to keep happy at first, once you find a spot where your fiddle leaf can thrive, it’ll likely be happy there for a long time.

Maidenhair Fern
The smaller potted maidenhair ferns are wispy and light, but dense enough to bring a nice dose of green to a vignette or a side table.

If you’re a habitual plant-over-waterer, this one is perfect for you! It loves damp soil and thrives in many different light situations.

Money Tree

Also called a malabar chestnut, these beautiful trees and their braided trunks have a ton of textural interest and greenery in one package. Readily available at most home improvement stores, they offer a lot of bang for the buck, and they can grow tall and dense, filling out an empty corner of your living room with life and greens.

No room is complete without a houseplant or two to bring life and energy into the space. Where can you add a few extra houseplants in your house today?

  • Great article. I’ve managed to find many plants that even I can’t kill. Most of us can use a shot of green right now, but plants are good for freshening the air in our homes, all year round too.
    Thanks for sharing.
