Our family room is always a hub of activity. We watch TV and movies there, read there, and play games there. So it has to be comfortable. Here are some ideas for a fun and comfortable family room for your home.
1. Create a soft place to land.
The family room should be cozy and comfortable. Start with the sofa, and add some colorful and fun throw pillows to make you want to flop down on the sofa and relax.
Add throws and pillows for a cozy movie night or relaxing with a good book.
Since we play games in our family room, the rug needs to be soft, too.
A fluffy shag rug like this would be perfect.
Make sure you have plenty of seating. Aside from the couch and armchairs, think about adding poufs or bean bags for comfortable seating.
2. Create the right arrangement.
Arranging the furniture in a family room can be tricky because of all the elements that go in that room. First, choose a focal point – the television, the fireplace, or both.
Arrange the furniture around that focal point, creating a comfortable space from any angle. Don’t push the furniture up against the walls; make the pieces float in the room to create a nice flow.
3. Create fun!
Add fun elements to your family room. Bright colors create a happy mood.
My daughter suggested a popcorn machine for our family room. Now THAT would make movie night fun!
