The cold weather has made me want to bury myself under the covers in a soft, warm bed. So, today, let’s talk bedding. Not just any bedding, but luxe bedding.
First, some basics: what should you look for in luxe bedding? What makes some sheets softer than others?
Thread Count
Thread count is defined as the number of vertical threads and horizontal threads per square inch. For example, if you had 100 threads vertically and 100 threads horizontally, that would produce a 200 thread count.
Generally speaking, if you want a crisper sheet, you should aim for a 200-300 thread count. If you want softer sheets, try a 400-600 thread count instead. Some say that more than a 400 thread count isn’t really worth the extra cost, because it often means that thinner threads are used to get more threads per square inch.
Fabric Choice
Thus, what might be as important as thread count is the type of thread used. Percale provides the crisper sheets. For something softer, try combed cotton, Egyptian cotton, or pima cotton. What makes sheets luxe is not only thread count, but the quality of the threads in the count.
Pile It On
Beyond that, to me, what makes bedding luxe is how you layer it on the bed.
Make your bed a luxurious sanctuary by adding duvets, blankets, and pillows. I love feeling like I’m enveloped in my sheets and covers – true luxury.
I totally agree that the more bedding the better. It makes you just sink in and snuggle for a great night’s rest. Also, the higher the count (like in the 800+) the hotter the sheets because they hold in your body heat. We learned this the hard way.
Good to know! It snowed here in Georgia today, so I’m looking forward to layers of blankets tonight!
