It’s no secret that I turn to Pinterest for inspiration for many of my home and crafts projects, but I have yet to take that inspiration outdoors – even though I have a board properly named “backyard”. Now that spring is here, and the weather is nicer, the yard is calling my name.
This year, my goal is to create a family-friendly space that is inviting – should we have company over this coming summer – and to create a space that is serene and comfortable for me to retreat to, but also colorful and fun for the kids to play in and help maintain.
It just so happens that we are in the middle of spring cleaning, which is perfect timing for this fun, decorative upcycled planter idea for the kids. I’ll be pulling all of last years’ rain boots for this project and go looking for paint colors to paint and coordinate each boot to better match our décor.
We have the perfect tree for an outdoor swing! With a piece of sanded (and possibly painted) upcycled wood, rope and ribbon, all of the kids can enjoy this peaceful and beautiful swing in the yard.
It has always been a dream of mine to create a stone walkway leading to the tree with the swing. But it has to be dreamy looking… This is a perfect way to trim the stones while adding color and incorporating useful herbs and plants.
Since spotting the above Pin, I’ve been itching to do this fun, colorful and super easy DIY upgrade in our yard. But because I have little ones still, I plan to create a design along the top of the fence (out of reach from little, curious hands) and make sure the marbles are not only secured, but also glued into place. I might have to place a few chairs nearby just to sit and enjoy the colorful display while sipping some sweet tea.
One of my goals for spring is to plant a kid-friendly garden – and allow the kids to help maintain it! Gardens are a great excuse to get kids outdoors, in the fresh air, and as a tool to help them build their confidence. Gardening teaches children about cause and effect and allows them to feel accomplished for working hard on a project all their own. To keep track of our garden contents, I plan to have the kids paint rocks as garden makers. I love that we can make the garden a personalized space with something as simple as rocks and paint.
