Have you ever run across a neat little doohickey and thought, “Ah ha, that would be even better as a [fill in the blank]!”?
Ditch the same old pencil holder and desktop file stand; here are some of my favorite creative organizational solutions for the office or home to help add a personal touch, show off your style and highlight your creativity. But that’s not all; all of these items can be used for organizing your life one year, and then made into another smart solution as your needs and lifestyle change.
Wall and desktop organization
The Boon Stash is a multipurpose store-all to organize every aspect of your life. It can be hung on a wall or placed on a desktop and filled with just about anything. Take it from your office – holding pens, pencils, scissors and tape – to your nursery, playroom or kitchen. The options are endless, the storage space is practical and it looks good in any room.
Chalk board decals
Write your daily to-do list, reminders and meeting motes on the wall with these Wall Candy Arts Mini Chalk Board Decals. When you need to move offices or rearrange your space, just peel and stick to another spot. Save one (or get extras) for your home, because they make a perfect doodle space or serve as a spot for reminders as you’re walking out the door.
Modern magnet boards
I’m a huge fan of repurposing items for different uses. I’ve found the Ikea FINTORP magnetic bar to be extremely helpful in other situations. Its intended purpose is in a kitchen as a wall knife holder, but seeing as we don’t display knives in our home full of children, I use mine as a sleek and modern looking note board.
When paired with the GRUNDTAL storage containers and regular magnets, you can create a small, yet effective, space for your notes, paperclips and other small office items that always get lost or unorganized in a drawer.
The new pencil holder
The Boon Lawn is a kitchen drying rack intended for bottles, spoons and other children’s items that are being constantly washed. But once your child outgrows that stage, or if you want to spice up your office, you can use the Lawn as a pencil and pen holder on your desk. Slip in a photo or two and you have an ultra chic desktop storage solution.
DIY Ideas for Office Storage Solutions
- With a plain clipboard and a little chalkboard paint, you can create a practical conversation piece for your office wall. Clip a photograph or important reminder to the clipboard and with a piece of chalk, decorate the sides or write yourself a note for your note.
- Grab an old desktop frame, remove the glass, picture and any other pieces inside the frame and replace it with a thin piece of cork – cut to size. Now you have a personalized and personal-sized pin board right in front of you.
- Create your own drawer organizers with the bottom portion of cereal boxes. Wrap each one with wrapping paper or scrapbook paper to customize and organize your drawer space a little better.
