About 6 years ago, my company offered Color Consultations to home owners who struggled with white and unpainted walls. It was a great way to start a relationship with a potential design client and for the homeowner to ‘test’ out working with an interior designer. While our business is now focused primarily on home staging, we have recently been meeting with home buyers who are requesting our color consultation services! This recent interest might be because of a combination of reasons…
The perfect time to have the walls painted is before any furniture is moved in. We are contacted by buyers who have contracts on homes and haven’t quite closed yet, but want to get started on their décor. In many cases they already have their furniture and we use that to inspire the wall color for the new home. We have even gone so far as to view the current home with its furniture, art and accessories in place and then visit the new home to determine how best to infuse the color scheme of the existing furniture into the new space.
Color is more prevalent in design these days, and buyers are starting to have more confidence about using it in their homes.
Not sure that the avocado fridge is making a comeback, but we are definitely seeing more color being offered in home products, as well as continued encouragement about painting the walls from various home design television shows and hardware stores.
Buyers are inspired by art, decorative pieces and area rugs selected while traveling and want to highlight their experiences in their home. The color used in this room was inspired by the art my client picked up in Cuba. Art and area rugs are fabulous ways to inspire a rooms’ walls color and overall palette.
Additionally, more global textiles and fabrics are making their way to national home furnishing retailers, full of warm and bold color, and subtly influencing color in the home.
If you are fortunate to be a buyer or just want your home to feel new, add some color to those walls and ‘break out of your beige haze!’

I love color, and am glad it’s making a comeback. Personally my home is filled with deep saturated colors. Great post-and I love the idea to let your vacations inspire you.
