Quick and Easy Thanksgiving Fare

Alyssa Hawkins

Thanksgiving is by far, one of my favorite holidays! It is a time to truly reflect on all of the blessings in our lives and to be grateful for what we have been given. It is also an excuse to spend all day with family members that you don’t see often enough, eat more food than you ever should in 24-hours, and indulge in football as visions of sugar plums begin to dance in your head.

There is no doubt, I love food! And more so, I especially love Thanksgiving food. Pumpkins, sweet potatoes, and fried okra are just a few of my weaknesses; but my real weakness is trying to find recipes for Thanksgiving that will impress while not keeping me from enjoying what truly matters — spending time with the ones I love! Here are a few of my favorite Thanksgiving foods that you will definitely thank yourself for later! (Pun intended)

  1. Turkey! The star of the show is one recipe that you do not want to mess up or you will be reliving the dry and crunchy turkey scene from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I like this recipe for the Best Roast Turkey from The Yumm Life because it provides simple directions on how to roast a turkey and helps to resolve some of the myths that surround roasting the perfect turkey.

  1. Sweet Potato Casserole. I had to include this one because it is my absolute favorite dish of all time (and I usually only get it at Thanksgiving!). This recipe from Center Cut Cook is super simple and the result is divine!

  1. Fried Okra. It really doesn’t get any simpler than this recipe from Instructables but let me tell you, for such an easy dish, there is always a shortage in supply so make extra!

So as you prepare to host friends and family at your home or travel to your Thanksgiving destination, consider making these simple and quick recipes so that you can actually enjoy your time with the ones you love! And as we typically do during this time of the year, remember all of the many blessings you have been given and be thankful for the small things!
