Spooky Halloween Treats (Part 2)

Alyssa Hawkins

Halloween is a great time to get a little creepy and funky with your desserts. Creativity works at its finest during this holiday — whether you’re planning your costume, a haunted house or party, or simply a cupcake, Halloween is time to go all out! Can you tell it’s one of my favorite days of the year??

So with my costume carefully curated and 99% of my party details checked off the list, my last to-do is to figure out what awesome treat I’ll be delighting guests with this year. And after perusing some of my favorite Pinterest haunts, I’ve narrowed it down to a handful of spook-tastic options.

Witch Hat Cupcakes

How indulging and delicious do these cupcakes from Pinterest look?  Add in mint chocolate chips to the batter for a little twist, or semi-sweet chips if you prefer. After the cupcake is cooked, top it with green icing (using food coloring), a chocolate wafer cookie and a chocolate ice cream cone. Add a stripe of green and yellow icing for the finishing touches and you’ll have the treat of the night!

Bloody Candy Apples

Lil Luna created these Gooey Monster Cookies which are super easy to make. First, beat butter, egg, vanilla and cream cheese until well blended. Mix in one box of white cake mix. Divine batter into bowls for the number of colors you want. Add food coloring to each individual bowl and chill for 30 minutes. Roll into balls and dip into powdered sugar, then flatten and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. All the candy eyeballs while the cookies are still warm.

Dracula’s Dentures

Buy or bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies (or any other kind you prefer). Add some red food coloring to vanilla frosting and spread it onto the cookie. Then add some miniature marshmallows for the teeth and cut up some almonds to create a tooth-like appearance! This is definitely a bite you’ll remember forever (pun intended). Thanks, gleamitup.com for this frighteningly great sugar rush!
