Kick-start 2014 with this Simple Salsa recipe

Alyssa Hawkins

I love salsa! No, not the dance — the appetizer! I also love super simple. This recipe was given to me by a co-worker years ago and has become a staple in my home and almost anywhere that I am charged with bringing finger foods or appetizers.  There is one warning for this salsa – it is HOT HOT HOT.

What you will need:

  • 1 can whole tomatoes
  • 1 can pickled jalapenos
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 handful of fresh cilantro

How to make:

Drain tomatoes and add to blender.

Drain jalapenos (remove the carrots and onions). Cut the stems off the ends, leaving seeds and add to the blender. To make a milder salsa get the sliced pickled jalapenos.

Add 1 whole clove of garlic. I substituted the freeze dried minced garlic on my last batch because I forgot to get fresh garlic cloves from the grocery. It will do when you’re in a pinch, but I highly recommend the real thing! Also add in one handful of fresh cilantro.

Just add these ingredients to the blender and mix until smooth. Pour into a to-go container and impress wherever you go or pour into a bowl and enjoy at home!
