Double Duty Rooms

Karen Cooper

If you live in a small space, you know that sometimes rooms have to pull double duty, or serve two functions. Whether it’s utilizing an unused space in a larger room or converting a closet into an office or craft area, having a room serve two purposes can improve the function of your home.

Here are some of my favorite examples of double duty rooms.

The formal dining room may be the one room in the house most often serving double duty, because it’s used so infrequently. Amy from The Idea Room turned one side of her dining room into a home office. It fits right in – the cabinetry on the office side matches the cabinets on the other side of the dining room.

Another room that often serves double duty is the guest room.

If you have a large laundry room, you could convert part of it into a crafting space.
