If you live in a small space, you know that sometimes rooms have to pull double duty, or serve two functions. Whether it’s utilizing an unused space in a larger room or converting a closet into an office or craft area, having a room serve two purposes can improve the function of your home.
Here are some of my favorite examples of double duty rooms.
The formal dining room may be the one room in the house most often serving double duty, because it’s used so infrequently. Amy from The Idea Room turned one side of her dining room into a home office. It fits right in – the cabinetry on the office side matches the cabinets on the other side of the dining room.
This library-style office in a dining room is just stunning.
Another room that often serves double duty is the guest room.
Angie from The Country Chic Cottage turned one side of her guest room into an organized and colorful crafting space.
If you have a large laundry room, you could convert part of it into a crafting space.
All those bright colors might make you want to do laundry!
Even a spare closet can be turned into a craft space or office.

Our guest room is also our reading and treadmill room. No other place to put it! Hubs also keeps a lot of his collectibles displayed on shelves in there.
