The fall schedule is kicking into high gear now and I’m longing for a calming retreat from it all! What better place to provide sanctuary than a sophisticated and serene bathroom? When I poke around on Pinterest, that look can seem out of reach short of an entire bathroom remodel. But when I examine my inspiration images I find some simple ways to bring serenity and sophistication into my existing bathroom.
1. It’s all about the light.
Natural light flooding into a room prompts you to take a deep relaxing breath. It just makes you feel good! To showcase the natural light in your bathroom, make sure your windows are sparkling clean, see if you can forego or limit window coverings, and consider white trim around your window.
2. Keep the color palette light.
Even if your natural light is somewhat limited, enhance what you have by choosing a pale color palette. While whites will certainly do the trick, remember pale shades of cool colors such as gray, green, or blue will achieve the same degree of simple serenity with a touch more interest.

3. Muted and natural materials keep serenity front and center.
If your taste calls for something other than white tiles you are in luck. Today’s modern materials offer a variety of options to fit the bill. Porcelain tiles that mimic wood grain, subtle patterned cement tiles, limestone, and even wood flooring appear in the most modern bathrooms.
4. Interesting or bold accents can be sophisticated.
Don’t be afraid to express your personality in your bathroom. Bold accents used in moderation will keep your space sophisticated rather than eclectic and also preserve the serenity of the space. The trick here is flooding the space with light.
