As someone who works from home, I speak from experience when I say that your home office has to work for you. It has to be functional – you obviously need the basics of a desk, chair, file space, etc. – but it also should reflect your style. And, while you need enough space to work, you can carve a home office out of any spare space in your home.
Here are some of my favorite examples of live-work spaces in different decor styles.
Traditional
Laura from Duke Manor Farm has a traditional style, which is reflected in her home office. I love how she came to finish her office over time, after trying a number of colors and styles. She ultimately found the style that worked best for her.
Eclectic and Funky
Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof is one of my favorite bloggers: she’s a lovely person and she’s got a funky, fun style that I love.
Here, she created a home office in her guest room. Even though it’s a relatively small work space, it’s comfortable and functional and definitely stylish!
Industrial Modern
Industrial style in a home office involves a mix of wood and metal, like this home office from Bright Green Door.
The flokati rug softens the hard edges of the metal and wood, and I love the chalkboard paint on the file cabinets for notes and lists!
Farmhouse
Shannon from AKA Design carved an office area out of her farmhouse-style dining room:
It’s the same style as the rest of the room, so when guests come, she can just remove the work stuff and she has extra serving space.
Rustic
We love this recent office update from Melissa at The Inspired Room. Check out the full reveal of her new home office on Mohawk Flooring’s Creative Home blog.
These examples show that home offices can be carved out of any space in your home. Just make them functional, comfortable and reflective of your own decorating style.
Do you have a home office? Where have you made space for one in your home?
These are such great ideas! The traditional space is so pretty! Thanks for including mine!
