Soft white twinkle lights, homemade wreaths, ornaments and festive doorway garland are just a few of my family’s favorite Christmas décor necessities. They always make our home feel especially cozy before guests arrive to celebrate the season with us. As the mother of a very busy five-year-old who loves acting as a “big helper,” decorating for the holidays together has also become one of our favorite traditions!
Whether you’re preparing to entertain friends at home or to host the entire family for dinner, your guests will feel right at home and impressed by these decor ideas:
Write a warm welcome message for your front porch. Chalkboard art has proven to be extremely trendy in 2014 and will continue to make a statement in the coming year. It is perfect for welcoming your guests and is sure to make them feel right at home!
Create your own wreath. If you’re looking for ways to decorate on a budget, getting crafty and making your own wreath is a great way to save money and add your own personal style.
This 12 inch grapevine wreath and the individual floral stems were purchased at a local craft store for less than $20 and have stood the test of time hanging on my front door! Once you’ve gathered the materials you love, use hot glue or floral wire to secure the flowers and other arrangements in place.
Impress your tiniest visitors with a hallway of lights. One of the most exciting parts about hosting family gatherings is knowing that we’ll all get to see the faces of our children light up! If you have a large family like mine with lots of little ones running around, you know how much fun it is to watch as they tear open their gifts, sing their favorite carols together and share their Christmas wish lists. You may also know the importance of keeping them entertained while meals are in the final stages of preparation! Give them a special place of their own to play by hanging white twinkle lights across the hallway ceiling using 3M hooks (easy to remove once the holidays are over).
Make your mantle merry. Fill glass cylinders or vases with your favorite colored ornaments and use burlap to make a festive banner for a look that is rustic-chic. Add greenery and candles for the final touch!
