Every summer, my family heads to the beach. We usually go the first week after school is out and it’s the best way to decompress from a busy school year.
But this year we didn’t go, and I’m really missing the beach. I love its colors, its smell, the sand … all of its beauty.
Since I can’t get to the beach, instead, I’m going to show you how to bring ocean-inspired decor to your home. It’s not being at the beach, but it’s the next best thing!
Watery Blues and Greens
To bring that beachy vibe into your home, add some water tones, like blue, green, and teal.
Bring in the water tones on different textures for more interest. I love how this room incorporates teal, but in different media: wood (the tables and the oar), glass (the jars and bottles), and fabric.
Even if you don’t want to go so far as a teal couch, you can bring in the water-toned colors in accessories, like the basket, pillows, and paint on the back of the built-in bookcases, above. I love how the tile surround of the fireplace looks like sea glass!
Sandy Neutrals
To balance the blues and greens, add neutrals – like the color of sand under your feet.
Lightweight linens and seagrass rugs complement the greens and blues.
Rattan makes a formal dining room in a beach house more casual. Rattan, wicker, and bamboo all evoke that beach feeling.
Ocean-Inspired Accessories
You don’t need to go to the beach to find ocean-inspired accessories. If you can find a beach souvenir shop or even a thrift store, you can find beach-related accessories.
Or, make your own! Amy from Atta Girl Says painted this dresser to look like a maritime blueprint:
Would you believe that chest was an $18 yard sale find?
How about a beachy rug?
Or just frame a map of your favorite beach for a beautiful reminder of an oceanside vacation.
